A minister in the Christian Charismatic Ministry (CCM), Rev. Joseph Ndolo has told an Enugu Magistrate Court that his signature in a document forwarded by the leadership of the church to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), for change of trustees, was forged.
The Enugu East Magistrates’ Court has also issued a warrant to compel two of the accused persons, Paul Onuora and Ihitte Emmanuel Orji to appear before it on the next adjourned date.
Ndolo, until recently when he joined the Anglican Church, was a member of the CCM.
He was a chief witness in the forgery case brought against the General Overseer of the ministry, Dr. Sabinus Onuigbo and five other pastors of the church.
His words: “I served as a registered trustee member and national secretary of CCM, before resigning my appointment on May 13, 2011.”
He recalled that on December 2, 2014, “Pastor Innocent Nwangwu, a registered trustee member came to my office and asked if I was aware of change of trustees? I said I wasn’t aware. He brought some certified true copies of documents submitted to CAC Abuja for change of trustees.
“When I looked at the documents, the name of the person who submitted it to CAC was Emmanuel Orji and in the document I saw an extract of minutes of meeting of CCM submitted for the purpose. There was also an attendance list, but my name did not appear there. Innocent Nwangwu’s name was also missing in the document.
“Yet, the same extract recorded that Innocent read the minutes of the meeting. They also purportedly wrote my name and forged my signature as the secretary and producer of the document.
“The document was also countersigned by Pastor Onuigbo, whose name and signature also appeared in the document.”
He told the court that the same time the purported meeting was said to have held on July 16, 2014, he was in an exam hall writing theology exams.
“Having resigned my membership and secretaryship, I couldn’t have signed the document. Secondly, having not attended the meeting, there was no way I could have developed the minutes or extract. I didn’t produce it,” he told the court.
Earlier, in a motion for warrant of arrest against two other accused persons, the police prosecutor, Damian Njoku-Ume noted that the two accused persons, Paul and Emmanuel, not for the first time, have refused to come to answer to the charges against them. “This court has the powers to compel them to appear. I ask for a warrant to arrest and bring them to court.”
Defence counsel, J.C Ene’s opposing stance that the application will delay the matter and that the police knows what to do, could not deter the court from granting the application.
The case was adjourned to February 23 and 24 for hearing.
