How To Drink Water The Right Way

You are probably thinking this is a trick article as there really can't be a right or wrong way to drink water. A large amount of the water you drink is absorbed in the large intestine after being let out of the stomach.

Drinking water on an empty stomach ensures that the water passes through the stomach into the large intestine and enters your bloodstream within 5 minutes especially if the water is cold.

If however you’re eating while drinking the water, the water is passed into the intestines because the stomach must digest the food first, which means it might take 45 minutes of more for the water to enter your bloodstream.

This is why if you are dehydrated, you should drink water before eating so that your body can be quickly hydrated.

So, what is the right way to drink water?

Slow and steady: Drinking water slowly throughout the day makes you stay hydrated, this is because your intestines can only process certain amounts of water at a given time.

Timing: Knowing when to drink water is important especially as most of the water drunk is absorbed in the body within 120 minutes. This means if you intend to engage in a work out, you should drink water 2 hours before. If you want to eat, ensure that you take water 30 minutes before your meal. If you have a strong bladder, take a glass of water before bed. It is compulsory to take a glass of water when you wake.

Drink enough: Even though we have heard that 8 glasses a day is ideal, the the ‘correct’ amount of water for you is half your weight in ounces. This means that a 150lb person should drink 75 ounces per day, which is equal to 2.25 litres.
